Gwyneth Paltrow Feels “So Good Turning 50” She’s Celebrating Nude
It's all about letting go of the need "to look perfect."
Gwyneth Paltrow is baring it all for her 50th birthday in a brand-new photoshoot—turning herself into a shimmery, golden statue to mark her golden anniversary around the sun.
“I feel so good turning 50, and this is about expressing that sense of energy and optimism that I’m experiencing,” the Goop founder said in a recent blog post. “It’s more about the female gaze and just a sense of fun.”
Inspired by the 1964 film Goldfinger, Paltrow’s glam team used a range of Goop nourishing products to prep her skin and body before painting it with rich gold shimmer powder. “We were going for golden goddess,” Lottie, a makeup artist in LA, explained of Paltrow’s look.
For Paltrow, turning 50 is all about “[accepting] the marks and the loosening skin, the wrinkle,” and “[letting] go of the need to be perfect, look perfect, defy gravity, defy logic, defy humanity.” In a heartfelt birthday essay published on Goop, Paltrow described her body as “a map of the evidence of all the days” and “a collection of marks and irregularities that dog-ear the chapters”
The health and wellness guru also reflected on the last 50 years of her life and what she hopes to gain in the next 50.
“I would like to slow down. I would like to retreat a little bit. I would like to make my circle smaller. I would like to cook dinner more. I would like to see misunderstandings become understandings,” Paltrow wrote. “I would like to continue to open the deepest part of myself to my husband, even though it scares me.”
She added, “I would like to sing more, even if it’s just in the shower. I would like to tell anyone that had a negative experience with me that I am sorry. I would like to fully acknowledge myself. I am imperfect, I can shut down and turn to ice, I have no patience, I swear at other drivers, I don’t close my closet doors, I lie when I don’t want to hurt feelings.”
With life experiences come seasons of change as well. “We have gone from bell bottoms to skinny jeans to bell bottoms and we will go back again,” the actress said.
As she embarks on year 50, Paltrow wants her children to know “they are the greatest accomplishment of my life.” As for herself, Paltrow wants to “hold myself to a higher standard of compassion.” Happy 50th, GP!
