Guys! “Star Wars” Monopoly will *FINALLY* feature Rey

Board game aficionados and Jedi Knights across the country can celebrate harder than the Ewoks on Endor, as Hasbro has FINALLY announced that Rey will be featured in Star Wars Monopoly.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (okay, in our galaxy and last year), there was some controversy after it appeared that Rey, one of the lead characters from the recently returned Star Wars franchise, was missing from the Star Wars Monopoly game.

While Hasbro, the company who owns and makes Monopoly, said that they would be adding the character to the set in the U.S. — Rey was already available in international versions of the game — it was reported earlier this month that the character was STILL missing from the game.

As our pals at Entertainment Weekly reported, Hasbro spokesperson, Julie Duffy, said to the Associated Press that while in 2016 the company had updated the Star Wars Monopoly set to include Rey, it was withheld from U.S. retailers due to  “insufficient interest.”

Duffy said that the product had been offered to U.S. stores, but that they “had ample inventory so they did not choose to sell the new version.”

This was despite outcry on social media last year that sparked the hashtag #WheresRey. Indeed, one letter sent to Hasbro by 8-year-old Annie Rose went viral after she chastised the company for the exclusion of the character.

Now, over a year after it was requested, it seems that Hasbro has been listening (finally).

As Digital Spy reported, new Rey-inclusive Monopoly sets will be available to purchase from the Hasbro website starting July 25th.

Currently it remains unclear whether this updated set is part of new merchandise to accompany the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but a description on the company’s website states that “[t]he game features Darth Vader, Finn, Kylo Ren, and Rey tokens.”

Tbh, we’re just glad that Rey is finally getting her day to shine on the Monopoly board.
