Guilt-Free Valentine’s Gifts For You OR Your Guy

Love is in the air! But love can be kind of expensive, don’t you think? I mean, we’re still recovering from Christmas shopping.

No matter what your stance on the holiday is, it’s always sweet to present your boyfriend or girlfriend with something to show that you haven’t forgotten them. But, have no fear. These gifts below are not only creative, but won’t break the bank.

Build On Brick Mug from ThinkGeek, $19.99

If your loved one can’t wait to see the LEGO movie (which I hear is pretty good!), this mug might be the perfect gift for them. Not only is it the perfect device for holding your morning coffee (which is a daily gift in itself) but it’s fun, too. Keep in mind, the mug doesn’t come with LEGOs (or as the site refers to them, “bricks”) so that might be a good side present. Even if you leave it as a textured gray mug, it’s still probably cooler than the one your sweetheart is currently using.

Ransom Note Card from Amazon, $3.35

I love couples that have a morbid sense of humor. While it looks like a ransom note, the inside message is sweet. Just imagine what your family might say when they see it displayed on the mantle. Let’s just hope it’s not “Uh – are you sure about this one?”

Glyphs, Ands, or Buts Photo Frame from ModCloth, $29.99

If you’re living with your sweetheart, it’s kind of adorable to have a few pictures on the wall. This frame from ModCloth is pretty direct, without making a big scene about your love. Even better, if the two of you end up getting married, it’d be an awesome decoration for your card table. If you have two kids (or say, a kid and a dog) they can also be proper subjects that the two of you won’t mind glancing up at on a daily basis.

Valentine’s Day Interactive Tribble from ThinkGeek, $24.99

Know what the real trouble with Tribbles was? They weren’t decked out in cute Valentine’s Day gear. If your significant other is a Trekkie, they might get a kick out of this interactive little buddy. The decorative headband is actually removable, so you can display him even when it’s not February.

Think of it as a Furby, but without those piercing eyes and horrifying voiceboxes that will spontaneously wake you up at night with demands of “May May”.

The Heart of Timekeeping Necklace from ModCloth, $29.99

Ladies, this gift might just be for you or your girlfriend. But it’s gorgeous, so I had to include it. This little pocket watch necklace will look good either casually or dressed up, and it’s a great backup when your phone runs out of batteries after taking 9000 pictures of the great date you’re wearing it to. At just 30 dollars, it’s a steal.

Banana Card by Danilalo on Etsy, $3.68

If you frowned upon the card above, here’s one that might be up your alley. Not only is this the happiest banana I’ve ever seen, but he’s guaranteed to put a smile on the face of whoever your lucky recipient is. I’d say he’s “a-peeling!” but that’s just me stealing his joke from him. Hmm. What other things can a romantic banana say. He’s high in potassium? Eh, I quit.

Star Wars Pancake Molds from Williams-Sonoma, $6.99-$14.99

If you were aiming for a heart-shaped breakfast in bed, how about upping it up to Millenium Falcon-shaped? These pancake molds are so cute that it’d almost feel wrong to eat them. But of course you’ll eat them, since pancakes are amazing. Note: The characters were once available, and might be available sometime soon. So keep checking, if you want the full collection.

Just a warning: While I don’t own these myself, I can guarantee that you might get discouraged if your pancakes don’t turn into the exact shape you envision. I’ve made plenty of Ninja-Bread men that have morphed into Obese-Armless-Ninja-Bread Men. It’s the thought that counts.

Sentiment to Be Pillowcase Set from ModCloth, $29.99

Bedtime is the best time to relax and think about how great of a relationship you’re in. These pillow cases, adorned with “I love you” in Spanish, are sure to help you put away the chaos that your workday gave you and remind you that home is where the hugs are.

Slate Heart Server from Uncommon Goods, $32.00

Uncommon Goods has some great products, and this server is definitely top notch. This product is handmade in India, and has smooth corners so that your tables won’t suffer any abuse from the display of cheeses you’ll be serving at your next party.

Wine & Champagne Candles from Vat19, $13.99-$19.99

You know what? Everyone likes candles. They smell good, they class up your living space, and they’re pretty soothing on a cold wintery day. (It’s different when you walk into a Yankee Candle, and smell 900 things at once. In those instances, candles aren’t the greatest.) These candles from Vat19 are a bit more intriguing, as they smell like wine (or cake, if you get the champagne glass) and you can re-use the glasses for your next gathering once the wax is long gone.

Apology Trophy from Uncommon Goods, $40.00

Since sometimes, we make mistakes. And if your love is a new love, you might not have gotten into your first fight yet. Believe me – fights are natural, and it’s totally common and healthy to fight. Heck, it’s one of the reasons why Ann Perkins dumped Mark Brendanawicz seasons ago in Parks & Recreation – they never ever fought. Be the better man or woman, and show your loved one in trophy-form that future disagreements don’t mean that you don’t love or care about them. Perfect for your trophy case. Or, a perfect reason to buy a trophy case.

Which ones are your favorites?
