Guava and Cream Cheese Crescent Rolls: A Super Easy Flavor Twist

I love serving up tasty food during the holidays, and tiny, delightful crescent rolls are usually the first to fly off the table and into many happy tummies. But wait until you try this super easy yet flavorful twist. You’ll have to make at least four batches to keep up with demand, and even so, they’ll be super easy to prepare.

Tonight, I filled these rolls with a little dab of cream cheese and pasta de guayaba, or, guava paste. Guayabas are sweet fruits that grow on trees and are very fragrant. Most of them are very pink on the inside and can be made into delicious flavored beverages, like a hot ponche (punch) or an agua fresca (flavored water beverage). They can be made into jams or as a paste like what I used tonight for the crescent rolls.

They don’t look impressive rolled up and raw on the plate, but they take on a more satisfying appearance after sitting in the oven for a few minutes.

It only took ten minutes for them to be ready. I did give them just a few more minutes because I wanted them to be just brown enough, but don’t go past 13 minutes on a 375 degree oven.

I should warn you, you want them to cool off before you bite into them. I got too eager and the guava paste was hot. Give them enough time or break them in half so they cool off faster.

You’ll really enjoy these with coffee or cold milk, but I had them with a glass of Pinot Noir. They’re really great for the holidays as a treat to share with coworkers in case you want to try something a little more unique than cookies or pies.

Guava Paste: Iberia brand pasta de guayaba. Can be found at various grocery stores.
