Chris Pratt and his glorious sideburns are front and center in these brand new “Guardians of the Galaxy” images

So far much of the excitement surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2  has been focused on the adorableness of Baby Groot, who proves that even the small can be mighty. Oh, and he’s more like a kid Groot now because he can actually walk and let’s face it we all have to grow up sometime. We totally understand the obsession with Baby Groot. He’s spunky and got just the best dance moves.

But in recently released photos from the film, Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord is front and center. Plus, he’s got sideburns! Seems like they’re really reminding us that these Guardians are also rock stars — complete with their own soundtrack.

Director of Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2 James Gunn recently released some new official photos over on his Facebook page and wow. The film looks like it just might live up to the epic-ness of the first film.

It looks like Drax is back for the sequel and there’s even a photo of their new pal Mantis. Plus, photos of old pals Rocket and Yondu show that that crew is bound to get into plenty of trouble in this film. Also returning is Gamora, who always seems to be the voice of reason in the bunch. Even more photos were released on USA Today depicting this merry band of ex-convicts. But let’s just think of them as a non-traditional family unit.

It also appears that the crew had a great time making the film. James Gunn has been sharing some behind the scenes photos on his Instagram and there seems to be no shortage of laughs!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theaters on May 5 and is the first of three films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be released in 2017.
