Kurt Russell couldn’t stop calling Chris Pratt “Star Wars” instead of Star-Lord on the set of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” and LOL

Turns out that during the filming of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Kurt Russell couldn’t get the name Star-Lord right. And instead, switched Star-Lord in for the name of another sci-fi, space-set franchise.

You might think that some of the alien names in Guardians of the Galaxy would trip up the actors, but in actuality, Russell (who played Star-Lord’s father, Ego) couldn’t get the name of his character’s son (played by Chris Pratt) right. And the humor is in the way he messed up the name.

Specifically, Russell referred to Pratt’s character as “Star Wars,” instead of Star-Lord, a few times.

While filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, there were a few takes in which Ego calls his son “Star Wars.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, here are some of those occasions, which are included in the Blu-ray’s special features:

"Well, even where I reside out past the edge of what's known, we've heard tales about the man they call Star Wars."

And another…

"We've heard tell of the man they call Star Wars. Ugh. Yes, Star Wars. He's all of Star Wars."

You have to admit Star-Lord and the universe that he resides in share some similarities with Star Wars, but it’s still hilarious to mix them up repeatedly. Even writer-director James Gunn thought it was funny:

Guardians and Star Wars are both owned by Disney, and there was almost a Star Wars reference in Guardians of the Galaxy. And elsewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’ve been some Star Wars references too.

So it would’ve been funny if they had left in a mistake just to further cement the connection between the two. But hey, there’s always Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3!
