This new “Guardians of the Galaxy” trailer makes it look like a wacky ’80s TV show
This Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer is a throwback… And we’re not just talking about the Vol. 2 soundtrack. But if you love the ’80s, chances are you’re going to find the newest Guardians TV spot a pretty adorable throwback to cheesy, campy TV shows of the neon era.
That’s right: Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2 was literally imagined as a trailer for a fantastically retro ’80s TV show, and we would definitely watch. At this point they could re-imagine the movie as anything from a Victorian newspaper ad to a Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure spin-off, and we’d line up to watch. But we have to say: it really suits the ’80s retro vibe.
Get ready to ride a wave of nostalgia!
You better be ready, cause here it is:

In what could have easily been a teaser for Miami Vice or Knight Rider, the retro trailer opens with zoomed-in chrome and gold letters, and a techno-sounding musical track. Each character gets a line or two to show their personality, and gives a cheesy reaction shot. Like any good ’80s sitcom, there is a laugh track. The real kicker is that everyone gets their own billing card. Even “Special Guest Star: Intergalactic Beast”.
These retro vibes are not unusual for the Guardians franchise. The first film’s bangin’ soundtrack included mega hits from the late ’60s to early ’70s. If you saw the film you definitely jammed out to “Hooked on A Feeling” by Blue Swede. If you peek inside the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 soundtrack, you will see that it features late ’70s and early ’80s tracks.
No word on whether Chris Pratt will be sporting a white blazer and sunglasses yet, à la Don Johnson. Hopefully Baby Groot will grace us all with an impression of Flashdance?
Maybe for Guardians 3?
