Grimes’ lost demo track might be one of her best yet
I think we can all agree: there’s a certain kinda pleasure that comes from listening to lost music demos, but it’s particularly thrilling when those lost demos belong to one of your favorite artists.
After scrapping an entire album at the end of last year, Claire Boucher, otherwise known as Grimes, has stayed off the radar. All of that changed this week when Grimes came out of the blue to treat us to an unreleased track off of the lost album!
Titled “REALiTi,” the track is, in Grimes’ words, “a demo from ~ the lost album ~, recorded early 2013.” She continued to give a little bit of back story on the scrapped track via her YouTube channel: “i lost the ableton file, so its not mixed or mastered. i tried to doctor the mp3 into a listenable state, but it was poorly recorded in the first place and never meant to be heard by anyone, so its a bit of a mess haha.”
A mess, huh? Yeah, we’re still trying to wrap our heads around the fact that this was never even released!
As per usual, Grimes’ ethereal vocals are accompanied by spine-tingling, electro pop synths. A far cry from her bubbling, dubstep headbanger “Go,” “REALiTi” is definitely on the smoother side. In fact, it could have easily been a smash hit on her Visions album — but enough about the past! We’re just glad this Grimes dry spell has finally come to an end.
