We’ve got some big old ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers
Grey’s Anatomy is going into its 12th season this year, and so far, it shows no signs of slowing down. The Shonda Rhimes-helmed show is already back to shooting this brand new season and you know what that means? The cast is talking about about what we’re going to see when the action picks up at Seattle Grace. So stop reading right now if you don’t want to know absolutely anything about the new season.
If you’ve somehow managed to suppress the events of Season 11, we’re jealous. Because the season was downright TRAUMATIC. The big incident was, like you will ever forget, when Derek Shepherd was hit by a truck and later died from his injuries after Meredith Grey took him off of life support. The show then flash-forwarded one whole year later, giving Mer enough time to grieve — and enough time to have a baby, too. Season 12 will now pick up three months after that.
The reason for time jump is bittersweet. As Rhimes explained to TVLine, “I couldn’t imagine a world in which Meredith could go a month and be able to speak or breathe — or [even] six months. I needed time to pass for her to even be in a place where I felt like she could have a conversation.” So when the show picks up, Meredith will have that voice back.
All eyes won’t be focused on her, though. In fact, according to Jason George, who plays Dr. Ben Warren, the writers tried extra hard to “breathe new air and refresh everything” for this new Derek-less season.
“They’ve hit reboot almost,” George told People, “There’s a lot of things that make it feel brand new, but it has that lightness and sense of humor that people fell in love with it in the first place. And the sexy sexy is back on.” Oh well that’s now caught our attention. And one couple we know for certain who will be all “sexy sexy?” Dr. Catherine Avery, played by Debbie Allen, and her brand new husband, James Picken’s Dr. Richard Webber.
“We’ll just say that we are giving new life to sexy over 50,” Allen explained to Variety, ” “We have a very hot relationship. Richard has got her busy.”
One person who won’t be looking for love this season? Meredith.
“I have not planned [a love interest],” Rhimes explained at the Television Critics Association press tour this summer, “I think Meredith is in a rebirth and she’s evolving. I’m watching the character do what the character’s doing and I’ll see where it goes… you can’t just drop a guy in and be like, ‘There he is!’”
And since everyone is still reeling from the death of Derek (including us, the characters on the show, even Rhimes herself), this season is also going to be a little more lighthearted and fun. Almost like a throwback to the earlier seasons of Grey’s, so expect more stops at Joe’s Bar across the street after shifts are over.
Anything else? Oh yes. Rhimes feels like the show can “do anything” which means that even with Season 12, Grey’s is still going strong. If you can’t wait for the new season to premiere, you don’t even have to wait that long! Grey’s is back in action on September 24th.
