A great white shark jumped into this fisherman’s boat, and yes, this is real life

As any seasoned angler will tell you, it’s a good day when the fish are biting. But what about when they’re literally leaping out of the water? That’s we would love to ask the great white shark that jumped into a fisherman’s boat.

Incredibly, 73-year-old Australian fisher Terry Selwood’s recounting of the great white shark leaping into his boat off the coast of Australia sounds like a pared-down version of a scene from Sharknado.

As BBC reports, Selwood was fishing in Evans Head in New South Wales when an 400-lb., 8.8-foot-long great white shark suddenly landed in his boat.

“This thing hit me in the forearm, spun me ’round and knocked me of my feet, and I fell on the floor on my hands and knees,” Selwood told ABC News about the unexpected shark encounter. “I thought he’d broken one of the bones in my arm, but he just badly bruised it and tore the skin off.”

After getting his bearings, Selwood radioed for help, but the coast guard didn’t believe his story until rescuers arrived and saw him covered in blood with numerous lacerations from the encounter with the large fish lying in his boat. Eventually, Selwood was taken from his vessel to receive treatment for his injuries, but the deceased shark remained onboard until staff from The Department of Primary Industries removed it.

While we’re completely baffled by this incident, Selwood hilariously shrugged off the story, saying, “It’s not a big deal.”

Um, we beg to differ, but we’re super relieved to hear that Selwood survived what has to be one of the scariest shark encounters on record.
