Apparently some people put this one random ingredient in their guacamole, and we’re intrigued

We thought we knew everything about guacamole at this point. As in, all the ingredients to make it taste yummy. But apparently we know nothing! In a video for Delish, Tiffani Thiessen shares her guacamole recipe…and it’s intriguingly citrus.

If you’re used to guacamole having lime juice and onions and tomatoes and a kick of jalapeño (and avocados of course!), start mentally preparing for a big ol’ red grapefruit to be dropped into the mix.

According to Thiessen, the diced pieces of grapefruit and squeezes of grapefruit juice are essential.

"I grew up in Southern California, where guacamole is a staple, so I made it a little healthier by adding citrus to it," she says."The citrus really brightens the guacamole."

We did  a little digging, and there are literally countless recipes online that incorporate grape fruit into guac. HOW DID WE MISS THIS?!

Are you thinking what we’re thinking? YUMMMMMMMM. And hey, there’s another welcome surprise: A garnish of roasted sunflower seeds. These add to the texture and give it a bit of a crunch.

Thiessen spreads her delicious guac onto fresh veggies, like carrots, bell peppers, tomatoes, and radishes. Hmmm…we’re intrigued.

via giphyThiessen also shares her philosophy of  eating healthy during the week, and having “a little fun on weekends,” which we’re all about. Sure it’s not easy to eat healthy, but fun recipes like this guac sure do make it more appealing.

Thanks for the inspo, and reminding us to branch out from our usual food — and enjoy what we eat!
