McDonald’s made emoji-infused ads, but a graffiti artist hilariously beat them at their game

The invention of emojis has given all of us the ability to communicate sans words when we don’t feel like using them (texting can be exhausting). Instead of letters we use tiny pictures to demonstrate how we feel — a happy face with heart eyes, a crying face, two girls holding hands, the one hundred symbol, a pile of poo, a mailbox . . . you know the drill.

Well, the marketing team at McDonald’s decided to cash in on the emoji craze and emoji-fy a billboard to capture our attention — at least long enough to figure out the message behind pix. The story they tell makes sense. There you are, driving along and you hit traffic due to construction. You drive some more. Oh no, you hit traffic again. More driving, more traffic. So much traffic! Ahh! Now you’re crying. You’re just so upset and frustrated because of the traffic. But wait, you see a McDonald’s! You forget all about the traffic, and you’re so happy because, McDonald’s!

Here’s the original billboard someone found near London and posted on Twitter:

Cute, right?

Well one hilariously brilliant (and seemingly anonymous) graffiti artist wanted to add his or her own twist to the story McDonald’s is telling. The artist added a vomiting emoji, because . . . well, good times.

So here’s how the story evolves now: There you are, driving along and you hit traffic due to construction. You drive some more. Oh no, you hit traffic again. More driving, more traffic. So much traffic! Ahh! Now you’re crying. You’re just so upset and frustrated because of the traffic. But wait, you see a McDonald’s! You forget all about the traffic, and you’re so happy, because McDonald’s! But then you’re sad, because vomiting.

Call us sophomoric but this made us LOL. There’s just something hilarious about this unexpected creative twist. There’s also just something hilarious about a vomming emoji. Good times.
