11 tweets about the government shutdown that show just how divided Americans are over the issue
In case you didn’t know, there was a government shutdown last night. Not the best news to wake up to, but it’s what’s happening in our nation’s capital right now. The Republicans are blaming the Democrats for the shutdown, because apparently the Dems wouldn’t move forward on a spending bill that didn’t include a DACA replacement. However, the Republicans control all three branches of government, so others are pointing fingers at the ruling party.
Whoever’s to blame, the federal government is now officially shut down until further notice. This means most government employees are furloughed, with the exception of workers in emergency services and a few other departments, many of whom won’t get paid. It also means nothing gets done in Washington until Congress reaches an agreement.
Needless to say, it’s a little chaotic over in D.C. right now. But it’s also confusing to the rest of the nation. There’s a lot of debate going on about this, and some are quick to criticize Democrats for their alleged failure to compromise. Still others are grateful for their elected representatives standing up to save roughly 800,000 Dreamers from deportation. It’s a lot to take in and a lot of noise to sift through — and people are stressed.
One thing’s for sure — everyday Americans are just as divided as Congress is right now, and these tweets prove it.
Here is where Dems may have misplayed their hand: President Trump isn’t like other presidents. He doesn’t play by the same template. He’s unpredictable & the best counterpuncher out there. They may have picked the wrong fight. Uncharted territory. @realDonaldTrump #shutdown2018

This guy thinks putting DACA on the line isn’t helpful.

Is firing everyone the solution?
Soooo, in Australia's Parliment, when they had a Gov shutdown because they were acting like children & didn't do their jobs/refused to work together, they got fired. All. Of.Them.
Hey America, maybe we take a lesson from our Aussie friends?

Political insiders are analyzing the recent history of the government shutdown, and some say this one is singular.
President Trump and the Republican majority's failure to govern has led to this unprecedented federal government shutdown, putting at risk essential services like our national defense and public health programs. #TrumpShutdown pic.twitter.com/Iq6vsf3Omw

Some people believe this is all a Democratic Party strategy.

Then there are those who believe it all stems from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
This gov. Shutdown is designed to keep the focus off the Russian investigation . Mueller is closing in. Lock them up!

Some are blaming Trump himself for the government shutdown.

Apparently, “regular” folks don’t care about this at all.
Just a quick heads up. Regular people couldn't care less about a government shutdown. No impact, no consequences and at the 11th hour there will be some compromise or extension, as always. No one wants to hear about or follow this nonsense.

Some believe the GOP’s unwillingness to bend on DACA is a clear sign of racism.

This guy believes it’s all going to be handled.
Unlike Obama in 2013, who tried to inflict maximum pain on the country, this shutdown will be handled in a way to minimize disruption. That’s the difference between Republicans and Democrats: Democrats are out to hurt the country, Republicans want to strengthen the country.

Whatever side of the political aisle you fall on, we can all agree that having a functioning government is a necessity — Congress and the president are still getting paid, after all.
