11 tweets about the government shutdown that show just how divided Americans are over the issue

In case you didn’t know, there was a government shutdown last night. Not the best news to wake up to, but it’s what’s happening in our nation’s capital right now. The Republicans are blaming the Democrats for the shutdown, because apparently the Dems wouldn’t move forward on a spending bill that didn’t include a DACA replacement. However, the Republicans control all three branches of government, so others are pointing fingers at the ruling party.

Whoever’s to blame, the federal government is now officially shut down until further notice. This means most government employees are furloughed, with the exception of workers in emergency services and a few other departments, many of whom won’t get paid. It also means nothing gets done in Washington until Congress reaches an agreement.

Needless to say, it’s a little chaotic over in D.C. right now. But it’s also confusing to the rest of the nation. There’s a lot of debate going on about this, and some are quick to criticize Democrats for their alleged failure to compromise. Still others are grateful for their elected representatives standing up to save roughly 800,000 Dreamers from deportation. It’s a lot to take in and a lot of noise to sift through — and people are stressed.

One thing’s for sure — everyday Americans are just as divided as Congress is right now, and these tweets prove it.
