Attention Upper East Siders: The Gossip Girl reboot just cast its lead character
Update, March 11th, 2020, 2:27 p.m. ET: This story has been updated as new cast members have joined the Gossip Girl reboot.
Hey, Upper East Siders, we’ve got major news for you. The upcoming Gossip Girl reboot has found its main cast, and we’re breaking out our biggest Blair Waldorf-inspired headbands for the occasion. We’ve been not-so-patiently waiting for updates on the forthcoming reboot after HBO Max gave it a series order back in January. And while it’s still unclear whether much of the original cast—save for the voice of Gossip Girl herself, Kristen Bell—is on board to reprise their roles, the new cast of Manhattan’s most elite teenagers is shaping up to create big stars out of a group of relative newcomers. And the new queen bee will be writer, entrepreneur, and actress Tavi Gevinson, which was just announced today, March 11th.
According to Deadline, Gevison is set to lead the new Gossip Girl reboot. Not much else is known about her character, but if she’s anything like the Rookie founder, she’ll probably be a total boss.
Slated for 10 episodes so far, the reboot will apparently reflect the many ways that the world has changed since Gossip Girl‘s final season in 2012, which means there will finally be some diversity among the core cast. Back in 2019, executive producer and writer of the original show, Joshua Safran revealed how times are changing for Constance Billard.
“This time around the leads are nonwhite,” he said at VultureFest. “There’s a lot of queer content on this show. It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that.”
Of course, we can hardly wait to see it all unfold. But in the interim, let’s meet the new crew.

The editor and writer has appeared in Scream Queens, Parenthood, and the movie Enough Said, but it seems like her Gossip Girl lead role will be her biggest part yet.
Thomas Doherty

We don’t know anything about who Doherty will play yet, but you’ll recognize the actor as Liam on Zoë Kravitz’s High Fidelity Hulu show.
Emily Alyn Lind

Lind has appeared on both the big and small screen in a slew of roles, including Doctor Sleep, Replica, and Lights Out on the big screen, and Eastwick, All My Children, and Medium on the small screen.
Though details about the reboot are still few and far between, we do know that Lind is on board in a leading role. She’ll play Audrey, who is apparently “starting to wonder if there’s something better out there than her current, long term relationship,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
Whitney Peak

While we don’t know much about the 17-year-old’s role just yet, you may have already seen her onscreen before. She plays Judith Blackwood in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and she’s also had roles in Molly’s Game, Hallmark’s Campfire Kiss, and an episode of iZombie, per her IMDb page, which also notes that she was was born in Kampala, Uganda and spent much of her childhood growing up in Canada.
Johnathan Fernandez

According to IMDb, this Brooklyn-based actor is best known for his role as Scorsese on Fox’s Lethal Weapon, and he’s appeared on Younger and Girls, so he’s clearly familiar with fictional NYC drama. He’s also a stand-up comic, so here’s hoping he’ll lend his comedic chops to his new role among the private school set.
Adam Chanler-Berat

Chanler-Berat has made appearances in Veep, The Good Wife, and the recently canceled musical series Soundtrack. There’s no word yet on who he’ll be playing, but maybe we can get some musical moments?
Eli Brown

Brown is best known for his recent role on Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, so it seems like he’s equally ready for whatever drama may ensue on or near the steps of the Met.
Zion Moreno

Zion Moreno is a model and a relative newcomer to the acting scene with a credit on the TV show Claws. We’re excited to learn more about who she’ll be playing in Gossip Girl.

We don’t know much about the role this Broadway vet will have in the Gossip Girl reboot, but we wouldn’t be mad if the new series featured some killer musical moments.
We’ll have to wait until later this year to see how it’ll all go down, and we truly cannot wait. Stay tuned for more details.
