Just a baby gorilla and a baby human playing peek-a-boo

Fact: Human toddlers love the game peek-a-boo. Another fact? So do gorilla toddlers.

The Columbus Dispatch recently posted a video of an impromptu round of peek-a-boo, at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio, between a boy and his new ape pal. Sherry Chute spoke to the newspaper about her 2-year-old son Isaiah’s new friend, “He was just looking at the gorillas and we said to him ‘Isaiah what do the gorillas do?’ and he started pounding his chest.”

The video shows the toddler after he catches the eye of a young gorilla named Kamoli, and an adorable game ensues. Kamoli runs back and forth along the glass of his enclosure, with Isaiah chasing along. After a minute or so of giggles, both grow tired and stop to stare at each other. Pressing his hand up against the glass, Isaiah says “Bye gorilla” and each returns to his family.

“It was so fun to see him interact with the animals and know what they were,” Chute told the Dispatch. “He was just so truely [sic] blissful in that moment, it melted his mommy’s heart.” It melted ours, too.
