Google’s CEO says he’ll “drop everything” to fix the cheeseburger emoji

If you like messaging about cheeseburgers, you may want to listen up. After emoji fans realized that Google’s cheese placement was way off, Google’s CEO said he’d fix the cheeseburger emoji — pronto.
It all started when writer Thomas Baekdal tweeted out on October 28th that Google’s cheeseburger emoji was much different than Apple’s, noting that it was all in the cheese. In fact, if you look hard, it seems like the cheese is just an afterthought on Google’s design. Might as well just make it a hamburger.
As foodies know, the cheese and the meat combination helps flavor one of our favorite go-to foods. Having the cheese sit directly on the bun just seems like a huge mistake.
I think we need to have a discussion about how Google's burger emoji is placing the cheese underneath the burger, while Apple puts it on top pic.twitter.com/PgXmCkY3Yc

Baekdal’s message was retweeted nearly 20,000 times, even to his disbelief.
This weekend was fun, but I'm now going back into 'media analysis mode'. We have publishers to save and new trends to discuss 🙂 pic.twitter.com/1TCC9prRHA

Luckily, it happened to reach the right audience. CEO Sundar Pichai said he’d look into the issue immediately.
Will drop everything else we are doing and address on Monday:) if folks can agree on the correct way to do this! https://t.co/dXRuZnX1Ag

"Will drop everything else we are doing and address on Monday 🙂 if folks can agree on the correct way to do this!" the tweet read.
Based on his smiley, we don’t think he’s joking. But his fans definitely included a few fun puns in response.
Oof. These burger puns are going to ketchup with you in a bad way.

People, PLEASE lettuce quit while we're ahead

This entire thread is far too cheesey.

And of course, a few people called him out on the “if folks can agree” part of his statement.
Just Google Image search a cheeseburger.

Of course, this made people look very closely at every type of cheeseburger emoji out there. After a comparison with companies like Samsung, Apple, and Facebook, Google is the only company that doesn’t include the cheese directly on the hamburger bun.
We can’t wait to see if Pichai makes good on his promise. While we wait, we’ll feast on a few cheeseburgers. For research.
