Google street view is making us feel like Ariel — they mapped the world’s reefs!

The seaweed is always greener in somebody else’s lake, but thanks to the masterminds over at Google, now we can dream about going down there AND see what it would actually look like to be part of Ariel’s world! Google is always doing cool stuff like their doodles to honor inspiring people in our past or changing maps so that we can play Pacman, but this might be our very favorite feature so far.

In collaboration with various sea-preservation organizations, Google has collected images from lots of awesome underwater hot spots and put them into GoogleMaps, complete with 360 degrees of vision and the ability to navigate along the reefs. Is there any place Google won’t eventually go? I vote inside of a volcano for the next Google exploration!

Even though we can’t TECHNICALLY transform into mermaids yet (please, science? please?), now we can toodle along the bottom of the sea and look at whales, beautiful coral reefs, and even shipwrecks.

It’s easy to imagine! Look, here’s your friend, this seal, who is giving you some side-eye about the shell-bra you wore today.

And here we have your friends in the local dolphin pack! Those dudes know how to have a good time.

Oh, maybe you would rather visualize being a part of Dory and Nemo’s world than Ariel’s undersea adventures? No problem, here’s a sea turtle friend to hang out with. Radical, dude.
