What we’re saying goodbye to on Netflix come November
You know how the saying goes: “Out with the old, in with the new.” While that’s a fine saying, and we always love new things, it’s a bummer when the “old” refers to movies and TV shows leaving Netflix. Because, yes, it’s that time of the month again.
Netflix is getting ready to pull a BUNCH of flicks from its streaming site. It’s to make way for new ones, of course. But this still means we’ve got our work cut out for us in the binging department for the next two weeks. Here’s what you’ve got to add to your queue right now before it’s gone.
Batman & Robin, November 1st
We’ve gotten to the point where there are SO MANY Batman movies, it might be difficult to tell them apart. This is the 1997 version where George Clooney is Batman, Robin is Chris O’Donnell and Alicia Silverstone plays Batgirl. Oh and Arnold Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze. It is so very 1997. It might only have an 11% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but it holds a very special place in your heart.
Fargo, November 1st
Not the current FX TV show, but the movie that inspired it. It’s one of the Coen brothers’ earlier films, and it totally blew everyone away when it first premiered in 1996. The “black comedy crime thriller” stars Frances McDormand, who won an Oscar for her role as a pregnant, kickass cop investigating a botched kidnapping scheme. Steve Buscemi and William H. Macy also play unforgettable characters in this darkly comic film. Check it out before it’s gone, and then go ahead and binge the first season of the TV show it inspired.
Saw I-V, November 1st
Were you planning on marathoning five of the Saw movies before Halloween? Good news is that they’ll still be around until midnight on the 31st. Bad news is that they’ll be gone after that. At least Netflix is leaving them up until the end of the month.
Scream, November 1st
WHAT, SCREAM TOO? At least Netflix is giving us one last Halloween with Wes Craven’s classic meta-horror movie.
Cleopatra, November 1st
Back in 1963, Cleopatra was the most expensive film ever made (Now it sits at #18, because it cost a lot of money to make The Avengers). It’s certainly a movie worth checking out since it stars a young Elizabeth Taylor in the title role. But, make sure you actually have time to watch it. The total running time of the movie is 250 minutes. Yup, that’s just over four hours of Ancient Egypt as interpreted by 1960s Hollywood.
The Blues Brothers, November 1st
John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, and the Bluesmobile. Here’s to one last mission from god.
Shanghai Noon, November 7th
When was the last time you watched a Western/martial arts movie? Maybe in the year 2000 when this movie first came out. Come on, Jackie Chan, Owen Wilson, Lucy Liu and a pre-Justified Walton Goggins star.
Teen Beach Movie, November 16th
Maybe you just want to stay in and watch a Disney Channel Original movie that stars Ross Lynch, the Disney Channel heartthrob of the day. There’s nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with the catchy songs in this seaside musical, either.
And that’s just the partial list of films we’re saying buh-bye to in November. You can check out the full list here, and start preparing for that binge.
