M&M McFlurrys could soon be history, and we don’t know what to do
We love McFlurrys. We’ve always loved McFlurrys. We will always love McFlurrys. Unfortunately, it seems that McFlurrys might not always love us.
Word on the street is that Mars, the company that makes M&Ms, has decided that the M&M McFlurry (in addition to the Burger King Snickers pie and Dairy Queen Blizzard) has too much sugar to condone. Kinda weird news coming from a candy company, but I guess it’s good that they’re looking out for us!
The reason that Mars cares at all is because, according to Reuters, the company’s public position is that “sweets are best enjoyed in moderation.” To be fair, the amount of sugar in a McFlurry exceeds the U.S. government’s recommended daily serving amount.
Mars has made other adjustments in recent years in the name of health. They were the first candy company to put calorie amounts on packages, they also recently stopped making king-sized candy bars, and limited individual packages to containing at most 250 calories.
While eliminating the item from the menu is one idea, the other option is to rejigger the recipe. We’re not sure if we have a say in this matter, but if we do please mark us down for a recipe redux. We totally get that McFlurrys are bad for us, but they just taste so delicious. McFlurrys, we are not ready to quit you.
