Andy Serkis resurrected Gollum to read Trump tweets, and you shall not pass up this “Lord of the Rings” throwback

Andy Serkis is known for his motion-capture performances, like Caesar in the Planet of the Apes series, Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and — perhaps most notably — Gollum in The Lord of The Rings movies. It’s been years since we’ve seen Gollum onscreen, so Serkis gave us a gift (almost) as good as any jewelry.

Serkis resurrected the ring thief — or the “three-and-a-half foot ring junkie,” as he calls him — who we all love to hate.

Serkis stopped by The Late Show to discuss War of the Planet of the Apes, and was asked by LOTR superfan Stephen Colbert to read off some of POTUS’ most absurd tweets — as his iconic character. And to everyone’s delight, Serkis was super into the task.

Serkis jumped up on his chair and curled his back, and said in the character’s iconic high-pitched, whispery voice, “The Fake News Media has never been so wrong or so dirty. Purposely incorrect stories and phony sources to meet their agenda of hate. Sad!” Better yet, Serkis even gets into “Covfefe,” and asks, “What’s Covfefe, Precious?”

But actually, Precious, what is Covfefe?!

We’re not really sure how this isn’t a meme already, since Covfefe already has a bunch of good ones, but we’re sure we’ll see a bunch soon.
