The cast for “The Goldfinch” is here, and it might be our new favorite movie
The cast has been announced for the big screen adaptation of Donna Tartt’s best-selling novel, The Goldfinch, and it is a stellar lineup of talent. Unfortunately, the film is still over a year away (sigh), and now that we know who makes up the cast, it’s going to be even harder to wait for this adaptation to come to the big screen.
The Goldfinch was Tartt’s first novel in about 11 years, and it quickly became a best-seller all across the globe. It’s always a huge job turning a well-loved book into a movie, but with the amount of talent they’re packing into this one, it looks like this adaptation is going to live up to our expectations.
Directed by John Crowley (Brooklyn), The Goldfinch‘s cast is rounded out with Luke Wilson, Ansel Elgort, Sarah Paulson, Jeffrey Wright, and Aneurin Barnard.
Elgort will be playing Theo Decker, a young man who loses his mother in a terrorist bombing at the MET. Theo’s alcoholic father, played by Luke Wilson, comes back into Theo’s life to attempt to take care of him. And while Theo may not be able to rely on his father, he finds an ally in a man named Hobie (played by Jeffrey Wright). Theo quickly falls into a life of crime, but manages to find hope in Rembrandt’s painting “The Goldfinch.”
Amazon and Warner Bros. are partnering to bring this film to life. Amazon will get exclusive streaming rights for the film, and Warner Bros. will distribute the movie theatrically and globally. So even if you don’t have Amazon Prime, you still should be able get to see The Goldfinch on the big screen. *Phew*
But like we said, you’ve got a bit of a wait for this movie. The Goldfinch isn’t set to hit the theaters until October of 2019 — plenty of time to read, or re-read, the book.
