The Golden Globes nominations are officially here, and all hail Meryl Streep, Billy Porter, and Jennifer Aniston
This morning, December 9th, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the nominees for the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will air Sunday, January 5, 2020, at 8:00 p.m. EST. As always, the competition is fierce, and we’re not sure who to root for. With faves like Saoirse Ronan (Little Women), Charlize Theron (Bombshell), and Cynthia Erivo (Harriet) all competing for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture-Drama, and films like Frozen 2 and The Lion King facing off for Best Animated Motion Picture, we’re all types of confused—but in the best way.
As Variety reported, no matter who goes home with an award, Netflix has already won big at this year’s Globes. The Two Popes, Marriage Story, and The Irishman are all Netflix films competing for Best Drama. And The Crown, The Politician, and Unbelievable face off in the television categories.
Other networks and streaming sites could also sweep the categories. HBO’s Barry, Succession, Game of Thrones, and Big Little Lies dominate the nominations list. As do Amazon’s Fleabag and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Adam Driver (Marriage Story) and Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) are up against Jonathan Price (The Two Popes), Christian Bale (Ford V Ferrari), and Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory) in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama category.
And newcomers Awkwafina (The Farewell) and Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart) share the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy category with Ana De Armas (Knives Out), Cate Blanchett (Where’d You Go, Bernadette?), and Emma Thompson (Late Night).

Other big-name favorites up for a Globe are Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Laura Dern (Marriage Story), and Billy Porter (Pose).
Oh, and obviously Meryl Streep is nominated for her role as Mary Louise in Big Little Lies. *Obviously!*
