Award season is in full bloom for 2021, and while it’s definitely going to look different this year than it has in years past, it’s all still taking place. COVID-19 forced Hollywood to virtually shut down over the past year, but the award shows will still honor TV shows and movies that were released at a time when we all needed a bit of joy in the form of entertainment. When are the Golden Globes?

The 2021 Golden Globes will be held February 28th at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Usually the Golden Globes take place in January, but because of COVID-19, award season was pushed back.

Who is hosting the Golden Globes?

For 2021, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey return to host the Golden Globes. The last time they hosted together was for the 2015 show—but this year they won’t actually be together. Fey will host live from the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center in New York, while Poehler will broadcast from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. This is the first time the show will be broadcast from multiple locations.

Who votes for the Golden Globes?

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is the governing body behind the Golden Globes. According to Variety, this group consists of “Southern California-based journalists who cover Hollywood for news outlets in 55 countries.” Membership is generally between 80 and 90 members who are eligible to vote on these awards.

Where are the Golden Globes held?

Traditionally the Golden Globes are held at Beverly Hills’ Beverly Hilton Hotel in California. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions this year, things are a bit different. While cohost Poehler will still broadcast from there, her counterpart Fey will be in New York.

While the Golden Globes are typically a star-studded event in a room full of celebrities, this year it will be limited to a small group of frontline and essential workers. Those invited will be subject to health screenings and a COVID-19 test. They’ll also be socially distanced at the show to follow proper coronavirus protocol.
