A “Golden Girls”-themed cafe is opening in NYC and we’re ~so~ here for it
Move over, cat cafes. There’s a new eatery that we’re going to be obsessed with and it’s inspired straight from our TV screens: New York City is getting a “Golden Girls”-themed cafe in early September!
The Rue La Rue cafe will be located on Broadway between 187th and 188th in Washington Heights, which is far uptown in Manhattan. The mastermind behind this go-to eatery is Michael J. LaRue, best friend of the late Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche on the show. The pair met at an animal charity fundraiser at Studio 54, the Washington Blade reports, before she passed away in 2010 at the age of 76.
In addition to her son, Michael inherited Rue’s home decor and showbiz memorabilia, which DNAinfo says will decorate the cafe. (He told the Blade that Rue was “a shopper and saved everything,” adding that she had 13 closets and five external storage spaces filled with stuff.) We don’t know yet what will decorate Rue La Rue, but it sounds like there’s a lot to choose from.
Betty White, who played Rose on “Golden Girls,” has reportedly promised to come to the ribbon-cutting ceremony when Rue La Rue opens to the public. We couldn’t be more excited to plan a visit when it opens!
