There is going to be a “Step Up” dance TV series and Channing Tatum is involved!

Channing Tatum has been showing off his dance skills long before Magic Mike came along. We first fell in love with his moves way back in his Step Up days (almost 10 years ago!), and even though he left the franchise after the second installment, we’ll always have a soft spot for anything and everything related to the films. Which is why we were so, SO excited to hear that there’s going to be a Step Up TV series—and Tatum will be involved!
Andrew Wallenstein, a Co-Editor-in-Chief for Variety, announced the news on Twitter during VidCon. false
Executive producer Adam Shankman confirmed the news on Instagram.
The Step Up franchise is going to be turned into a TV series on YouTube Red, YouTube’s subscription-based streaming service.
“We know dance has a hugely successfully global audience on YouTube,” said Susanne Daniels, head of YouTube Originals, at VidCon.
This time around Tatum will be involved behind the camera as an executive producer, along with his wife and Step Up co-star Jenna Dewan Tatum, plus the OG executive producers Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot, and Meredith Milton.
The news comes at an interesting time for Channing and Jenna. Back in March, it was announced that they’re working on their own dance competition reality show with NBC. Their dance cards are certainly full right now!
YouTube Red was launched last year, and is still finding its footing. But this Step Up news will definitely draw new subscribers, and make the service competitive with the likes of Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Now. We can’t wait to see Step Up come to life again!
