There is going to be a “Friends” Broadway musical, and they better get the rights to “I’ll Be There for You”
We’re about to make your day, your week, your month, and even your yeeeeear! Alert your pals because there is going to be a Friends Broadway musical. Friends! The Musical! will hit New York City’s Triad Theater this fall, so keep your calendar clear. According to Nylon, the musical parody will “navigate the pitfalls of work, life and love in 1990s Manhattan.” We’re feeling so nostalgic already!
“Friends!” comes from the brains of master-parody writers, Bob and Tobly McSmith. You may know them for their previous works, Full House! The Musical!, 90210! The Musical!, Bayside! The Musical!, or Katdashians! The Musical!
But we have a feeling that “Friends!” might be the McSmiths’ greatest work yet.
The parody plans on mashing all 10 season of Friends into one hilarious musical. And judging by the leaked song titles, we think we’re going to like every bit of this production.
For example, one of the songs is called, “The Only Coffee Shop in New York City.”
Another is entitled, “How You Doing, Ladies?”
Then, of course, there’s “Will They or Won’t They?” and “We Were on a Break!”
And don’t worry. The McSmiths know better than to leave out the most important song from the Friends era. “I’ll Be There For You” will most likely appear in the form of a song entitled, “We’ll Always Be There For You.”
Nylon reports that “Friends! The Musical!” has not been endorsed by the original creators of Friends. But cast members from other parodied shows have jumped into McSmith productions before. So don’t be surprised if Courtney Cox joins the cast in singing “The Ballad of Fat Monica.”
Tickets for Friends! The Musical! go on sale in June. You can sign up to stay informed about ticketing and production progress via the Friends! The Musical! website. Can we BE any more excited about this musical? We truly don’t think so!
