How you (and Tom Hiddleston) can make a huge difference with one selfie
You can say lot with a selfie, but generally what most of us choose to say revolves around ‘look how on point my hair looks today’ or ‘here I am, standing in front of the leaning tower of Pisa, wearing a cool hat.’ This week that changes. This week, you can use your selfie to actually make a difference.
Here’s the deal: On September 25th, world leaders will convene at the UN to decide on how to tackle 17 Global Goals—these are issues that need to be addressed in the near future to make the world a better place.
These goals aim to eradicate extreme poverty, fight inequality and thwart climate change. The trouble is these goals aren’t just something for world leaders to consider, but rather a mission we all need to embrace and share with the planet. Bottom line: We need to make these goals famous. If they’re not famous, then if no one knows about them and they won’t be completed. The Global Goals will only work if we can broadcast them to the world. If we can tell our presidents and prime ministers that this is what we want, that we’re sick of gender inequality, melting ice caps and the fact that millions of children suffer every day because they don’t have enough food, then they will have to stick to their promises and make sure these goals are completed.
And that’s exactly why some of our favorite celebrities are joining forces to raise awareness about these global goals, posing with cards representing the goal they’re most passionate about. Maybe you recognize these folks:
So how can you help? If we want The Global Goals to work, we need to make an impact, and the best way you can do this is through a selfie. All you have to do is pick The Global Goal that you care most about and take a selfie with the number of that goal (written on your hand, your face, a piece of paper). Then share, share, share your #GlobalGoals selfie wherever you can — Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, your mom’s fridge — to tell the world that you’re supporting @TheGlobalGoals and this is the goal you care most about.
If we can make these goals famous—if we can tell everyone what they have the power to achieve — we might truly be able to save our planet and change our world for the better. Make sure you’re following @TheGlobalGoals on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook and check out their website to find out more about your goal!
