“Glee’s” Mark Salling has died from an apparent suicide

It has just been reported today, January 30th, that Glee actor Mark Salling died from what appears to be suicide. TMZ reports that the police were called to do a “welfare check” on the actor after a family member reported him missing at 3 a.m. local time. This led to the discovery of his body at a baseball field near his home. The report says it appeared as though Salling had “been dead for some time.”

The actor — who played Noah “Puck” Puckerman on the hit Fox musical show from 2009 to 2015 — was currently awaiting sentencing for pleading guilty to possession of child pornography charges. According to People.com, he was arrested in 2015 after his then-girlfriend discovered thousands of images of prepubescent children on his laptop and called police. He struck a plea bargain with prosecutors in October 2017, and his sentencing was scheduled for March 2018. Salling expected to serve between four and seven years in prison.

People.com also noted that Salling was required to register as a sex offender, could not communicate with anyone under the age of 18, had to stay 100 feet away from “schools, parks, public swimming pools, youth centers, playgrounds and arcades,” and ordered to pay $50,000 to each  of his victims.

Salling's attorney released the following statement to People at the time of his plea bargain: “Mark is focused on accepting responsibility and attempting to atone for his conduct.

Sources told TMZ that the actor died by hanging, though this has not been officially confirmed by the LAPD. Salling was born in Dallas, Texas.
