On this #GivingTuesday, you can give back to charities with a few swipes of your phone
In a perfect world, we’d all be like UN Women Ambassador Meghan Markle and balance our time between humanitarian work, our careers, and, oh, getting engaged to an actual prince. In reality, most of us are busy with our jobs and families, and, unfortunately, traveling overseas to volunteer with a nonprofit or writing a huge check just isn’t in the cards.

Luckily, today is Giving Tuesday, a day that’s like Cyber Monday for charities. Apps and websites have made it super-easy for us to give back to our favorite nonprofit organizations from the convenience of our phones.
So if you want to give back but don’t know where to start, we’ve gone and highlighted a few of the ways you can donate simply by using your phone.
Support hurricane relief by texting the Red Cross
In a year plagued by so many hurricanes and natural disasters, the American Red Cross Disaster Relief is a great charity to support. The humanitarian organization has helped provide shelter, food, and emergency services to those affected by hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico and has made it easy for others to aid in their efforts. To donate $10, simply text REDCROSS to 90999 from your phone.
Download Kwippit for the Humane Society
The Humane Society of the United States knows the way to a millennial’s heart: through cute GIFs and mobile messaging stickers. That’s why the animal rescue organization has teamed up with the messaging app Kwippit to raise money. When you subscribe to the Humane Society channel on the Kwippit mobile messaging app for $1.99, 100% of the net proceeds from downloads will go to the Humane Society. Now you can do good and text your BFF with cute animations at the same time. It’s a win-win.
Tweet to Tinder and raise $100 for DoSomething.Org
Single and feeling charitable? Tinder has teamed up with DoSomething.org to make it super easy to give back this Giving Tuesday! All you have to do is post #imavailable to @Tinder on any social platform, and the dating app will donate $100 (up to $200,000) to the nonprofit organization. Select “Join us” inside the app for more deets.
Raise money with Charity Miles as you get in shape
It can be hard to motivate yourself to hit the gym, but what if you could also raise money for your favorite charities while breaking a sweat? CharityMiles is an app that does just that. After choosing a nonprofit from their list, like Stand Up To Cancer or the Wounded Warrior Project, the app will donate 25 cents for every mile you run or 10 cents for every mile you bike to that organization. So far, the app has raised over $2.5 million for its charity partners.
Donate your Starbucks money to help others
We’ve all heard financial gurus lecture about how much money we could save if only we skipped that daily Starbucks, but one app has taken that idea to the next level. Instead is a free microdonation app that allows its users to make small donations, usually $3 or $5, to its list of charity partners. So “instead” of getting coffee, you can make a difference in the world in a low-key and painless way. (Note: Instead takes a 5% cut of each donation to cover its operating costs.)
