6 places to donate to on Giving Tuesday because ’tis the season to spread the love

Let’s be honest: at a certain stage in our lives, the holidays became more about giving than receiving. That’s why we love the idea of donating to these places on Giving Tuesday. The counterpoint to Black Friday and Cyber Monday falls on November 29, and this year especially, it’s a little overwhelming to choose just one deserving cause to support.(Psst – if you’re still in shopping mode, consider buying from these charity-minded retailers.)

While we can’t all make a Britney Spears-sized donation to our favorite causes, every little bit helps. Giving Tuesday is a timely reminder that we can all make a difference in our own communities and beyond. Whether you’re looking to donate time or  dollars, do your research to make sure you know how you’ll be helping.

Need some inspiration? Check out one of these six great organizations!

Endometriosis Foundation of America

Co-founded by Top Chef co-host (and ultimate girl crush) Padma Lakshmi, the Endometriosis Foundation of America funds research into this insanely painful condition. Considering that one in 10 women in America suffers from endometriosis, Giving Tuesday is an excellent excuse to support the sisterhood – as if you needed one.

Operation Homefront

Operation Homefront runs a number of programs to support military families in times of need. During the holidays, their toy drive and Holiday Meals for Military make a special impact.

Kiva

Make your money go further this Giving Tuesday with a microloan. So far, Kiva has supported over 695,000 borrowers in the world’s least developed countries.

National Immigration Law Center

Now more than ever, the National Immigration Law Center needs support for their mission to advance and defend the rights of low-income immigrants.

Planned Parenthood

Whether you donate in your own name or in someone else’s (ahem, Mike Pence), any contribution to Planned Parenthood helps the organization bring sexual health care and education to communities across America. If you’d rather donate your time, they’re always looking for volunteers.

Petsmart Charities

Petsmart Charities earned top marks for accountability from the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance. But enough about what goes on behind the scenes – PUPPIES!!!!!

No matter where you decide to donate, doing good is better than anything you can get wrapped up in a store.
