This guy asked his girlfriend to text him World Cup updates, and boy, did she deliver
The World Cup is now in full swing, but with more than 60 games total, it’s hard (if not impossible) to keep up with the entire thing. One soccer fan, who had to be away from the action while he was driving home, asked his girlfriend to give him on-the-fly updates — and oh boy, did she ever.
London-based Twitter user @lightningstarr took to the site to explain that her boyfriend asked her to fill him in on what was happening in the England vs. Tunisia game on June 18th during his drive. And now, the screenshot she shared of her texts to him is going viral.
Once you read the World Cup texts, you’ll totally understand why.
She may not be engaging in what some would consider “traditional” sports commentary, instead letting her BF know that, 34 minutes in, “everyone’s hair is still holding up well,” but we think her approach is way more entertaining.
“My boyfriend asked me to text him updates from the #ENGTUN game as he’s on his way home. You can’t say it’s not accurate,” she wrote, along with the screenshot.
In their conversation, she kept her boyfriend abreast of who was on the ground and how the referee was feeling…you know, the most important details of any soccer game.

Unfortunately, though, it seems like @lightningstarr’s not planning to make this a habit, despite the fact that her original tweet has already gotten over 11,000 likes and 3,000 retweets.
“If I knew this was going to take off I would’ve made sure I spelt floor correctly,” she tweeted a day later. “I’m sorry to say that I’m on a plane at the time of the next England game.”
We’re bummed, too, because we’d love to hear her hilarious thoughts on the upcoming games. Maybe later on in the Cup, she’ll change her mind? Our fingers are crossed.
