Girl loses bet with bestie, must now dress like a Minion for homecoming

Finding the perfect homecoming dress can be harder than finding Waldo at the circus … and way more stressful. Should it be a loud, fun color, or simple, classic color? Would going strapless be miserable? It doesn’t have to be floor-length, does it? Prom is kind of like the Oscars while homecoming is like the Emmys: Your dress should show off your personality, but you don’t need to wear Oscar de la Renta gown. Save that for spring.

Since searching for an ideal homecoming getup is such an odyssey, it’s important to enlist the help of your friends and family. Daisy Maddox, a junior at Crescenta Valley High School reached out to her bestie, Ally Miller, and got the most hilarious, wonderful advice ever: Buy a Minion dress.

I mean, of course. Minions are just the right amount of fancy, and bright yellow brings out almost any eye color.

Ally and Daisy made a public bet that if a tweet daring Daisy to wear a Minion tutu dress was retweeted over 15,000 times, then she’d actually have to follow through. Ally threw (er – tweeted) the gauntlet on Monday with a screenshot of the pair’s conversation. Daisy learned quickly never to underestimate the Internet. Over the last three days, it’s been retweeted over 20,000 times. Daisy is most definitely going to homecoming dressed as one of our favorite cartoon troublemakers.

Minion mayhem has not been limited to high school dances. In the last few months, we’ve seen dads dressed as a little yellow guy on the subway, Kotex releasing Minion-themed tampons, and Posh Spice — queen of fashion and our hearts — sporting a Minion onesie. When Daisy dons that crazy banana-colored dress, she will be in very good company. Sometimes the worst part of clothes shopping, much less dress shopping, can be agreeing with your mom about what looks good. Daisy won’t have to worry about that: Her mom is already a fan of the Minion look. The Internet’s approval is one thing, but having your mom give your dress a two-thumbs up? Sounds like this is going to be the best homecoming ever.
