Scott Patterson confessed to having a crush on Lauren Graham during “Gilmore Girls,” and we’re like DUH
From the get-go there was always some serious on-screen chemistry between Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore. It turns out there was a pretty good reason for that! This article contains some spoilers for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, so turn back now if you haven’t seen the Netflix revival yet.
Now that the revival is live on Netflix, the cast of the beloved series has been making the rounds in the press, talking about big moments and behind the scenes extras from the hit. Now we’re learning that Luke may have had a crush on Lorelai, off-screen.
Scott Patterson recently spoke with SiriusXM’s Taylor Strecker, who asked him if he ever developed a crush on his co-star, over the seven years they worked together on the original WB show. The man behind our favorite diner owner told her, “Hell yes! How can you not?”
While we don’t think the two ever dated off-screen, the news certainly explains a lot about their chemistry on-screen. We learned in the weeks leading up to the revival that the character of Luke Danes was initially supposed to be a woman named Daisy.
Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino revealed to Entertainment Weekly, “Luke was originally a female character,” she explained. “[The network] came to me and said we need another guy, so I literally just took a character and changed the name, didn’t even change any of the dialogue because I’m that lazy.”
ASP also revealed that Luke wasn’t supposed to be Lorelai’s great love, either. Luckily for all of us, Patterson and Graham had amazing chemistry and we got to see the duo become the best couple on the series and even get married during the A Year in the Life finale. We can’t imagine Gilmore Girls without the iconic banter between Lorelai and Luke.
