Gillian Anderson may play a major character in The Crown, because sometimes we get nice things

Fans have eagerly been awaiting any and all news related to The Crown Season 3 casting decisions. The series follows the British royal family from the late 1940s to present day, covering a new decade every season…meaning the show must recast its central characters as they age. We already know that Olivia Colman will replace Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, Helena Bonham Carter will be taking on Princess Margaret, and Tobias Menzies will be playing a middle-aged Prince Philip. Now, it looks like we may be getting another major star…

Gillian Anderson.

That’s right. Agent Dana Scully herself (or Detective Stella Gibson for you The Fall fans) may be playing British prime minister and conservative icon Margaret Thatcher, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It’s currently unclear if Anderson would appear in more than one season, and Netflix has yet to comment on the casting speculation.

The actress currently stars in the Netflix show Sex Education, in which she plays mom and sex therapist Jean. Her character is extremely upfront with her teenage son about sex…often to hilarious, awkward, and painful results.

Not only is Anderson already in the Netflix family, but she’s played a number of British characters in her post X-Files career and currently lives in the U.K. Basically, we stan any and all Gillian Anderson involvement in the upcoming seasons of The Crown.
