Gigi Hadid is taking a break from social media, and, we get it
As much as we love scrolling through our Facebook feeds, updating happy snaps to Instagram, and expressing our innermost thoughts on Twitter, sometimes it’s necessary to go cold turkey on social media. You know, to recharge those batteries and come back with enthusiasm.
In Cosmo’s 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Gigi Hadid, we learned that she’s “taking a social media breather.” The good news for us is it’s only temporary.
While speaking on the recent Reebok #PerfectNever panel, she said, "I'm taking a month off, actually, during New Years. I'm not deleting my account, I'm just taking the apps off my phone. It's empowering, not just for people in the spotlight, for everyone."
Totally get it, girl!
There is so little privacy for anyone in the public eye these days, and it can get kinda scary. We love how honest Hadid was about the reason behind her decision — especially about the support of her followers (or sometimes, lack thereof):
"At the end of the day I'm choosing what I'm showing you. A lot of the world feels so entitled to other peoples' lives, which is so crazy. I'm going to take a break when I feel like it, and when I come back and share it with you, if you want to be supportive and still follow me, that's great. But, if you're going to be upset that I need to be human for a month, than maybe I don't want your follow anyway."
Could’t have said it better ourselves. You do you!
Of course, Hadid isn’t the first well-known person to step back from their social media accounts lately. Justin Bieber deleted his Instagram after being trolled; and Evan Rachel Wood is taking a break from it too.
We support anyone’s decision to take a healthy break from anything that’s becoming all-consuming or affecting them in a negative way, and we look forward to Gigi Hadid’s return! Whether that’s in a month, or longer. Take your time, lady!
