These “Ghostbusters” Slimer Twinkies are either going to be the worst or best thing ever

Thanks to an actor who can’t help but sing the praises of a certain green co-star, we know that everyone’s favorite ghost, Slimer, will have a part in Paul Feig’s upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. And now, thanks to the Twitter account for Hostess, we know that an intriguing tie-in snack is coming our way!

Nope, you’re not hallucinating: that is in fact a key-lime filled Twinkie in an unapologetic bright green hue. Apparently planned as edible movie merchandise, the special edition snack cake will soon be released to go along with the film.

The choice of a Twinkie is actually quite appropriate, if you recall the original movie. In a beautiful bit of exposition, Harold Ramis’ nerdy mad scientist character, Egon, uses a Twinkie to explain exactly how big New York’s ghost problem has become.

Of course, let’s not forget that the original film had some other kid-friendly snacks associated with the marketing, and according to director Paul Feig, at least one of them is also making a return. In responding to a fan’s tweet recalling the awful/wonderful “Ecto-Cooler” drink released for the original films, Feig affirmed that this High-C beverage is on its way soon!

We also have a very strong recollection of Slimer-shaped popsicles with gumball eyes being hawked from ice cream trucks in the late 1980s, but no word on whether these will be returning yet. And truthfully, who knows if the Ecto-Cooler or key lime Twinkies will be delicious or deserve to be killed by crossing the streams if necessary? Either way, fellow Ghostbusters, the answers to these and other franchise questions are coming our way very soon!
