People are already talking “Ghostbusters 2” and it’s pretty exciting

The megahit Ghostbusters rebootis still burning up at the box office, but people are already looking forward to a new sequel. We’ve got some juicy news about what it might be!

There is a lot of gossip out there, but when it comes to legit theories, we should probably take Paul Feig’s hints and clues a little more seriously. He is the director, after all. (There are spoilers below, so if you haven’t seen the new Ghostbusters yet and don’t want to know what happens, skip it and come back later!)

SPOILER! SPOILER!! SPOILER!!!! STOP NOW!!! WE WARNED YOU!! WE MEAN IT!!!

For one, Feig addressed that very final scene after the credits. He told IGN, “It was kind of a little comfort food, easter egg, that gives us an opening if we wanted to do another movie.” That sounds almost like a promise.

The final scene makes a reference to the big baddie, Zuul, from the original movies. Feig says, “We wanted to say possibly there’s something you know from the first one can come in. Again it’s not about creating the cinematic universe where suddenly there’s a wormhole and the original Ghostbusters show up, although somebody might do that at some point.”

Wait…what? Did the director of our new favorite ghost movie just say the original characters might just turn up in the sequel? The original cast members have cameos in the Ghostbusters reboot, but it would be even more exciting if they played the original characters. That’s big news, folks.

Feig has been chatting up a sequel in all sorts of ways. He told Yahoo News, “I’d love to see this situation happen in a lot of different places. I think other countries would be fun. I’d love to set something in Hong Kong or somewhere in Asia because they have such a strong ghost culture there.”

The all-female reboot made close to $45 million at the box office this weekend, which is a record for both Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy. That sounds like 45 million reasons why we should get a sequel.
