“Get Out” is returning to theaters on Presidents’ Day — and better yet, you can watch FOR FREE

By now, most of us have seen Jordan Peele’s groundbreaking horror film, Get Out. The film has been nominated for many awards, including several major Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and has made history multiple times over. With the one-year anniversary of the film’s release coming up, Peele and Universal teamed up with AMC Theatres to do something pretty special to celebrate the film’s release: This Presidents’ Day, you can see Get Out *for free* in select AMC theaters.

On Monday, February 19th at 7 p.m., select theaters across the nation will hold free Get Out screenings in celebration of #GetOutOneYearLater. You can head to the Get Out One Year Later website to see what showtimes are available near you, and watch some featurettes about the film and artists who were inspired by Peele’s work.

Upon its release, Get Out was instantly hailed as a modern classic.

Fans and critics alike have praised the movie as a piece of cinematic excellence — as well as a great addition to the current discourse on racial prejudice and injustice in our country. As The Verge reports, Peele hoped Get Out could start a conversation on “diversity, racism, and other vital issues that might otherwise be difficult to kick-off.”

If the audience response to the film (so far) is any indication, he has certainly done just that.

So it’s more than appropriate that AMC and team Get Out would honor the one-year anniversary of this monumental film’s release with such a fun event. Peele made the official announcement of the free screenings on his Twitter account accompanied by an appropriately unsettling video.

Of course, this is an extremely limited event, so you’ll need to do a bit of homework to find a showing near you. In fact, only 55 AMC theaters nationwide will be participating in the event, so be sure to grab your tickets now.
