Geri Horner née Halliwell has, 19 years later, apologized for leaving the Spice Girls

If you were a fan of the Spice Girls, then you might remember the day that Ginger Spice decided to hang up her Union Jack dress and head out on her own as a dark, dark day for pop music fans.

Since that moment, however, we’ve had a couple of reunions, and we’ve learned more about the dynamics of arguably the biggest girlband in history. And while it seems that not everyone in the group is willing to get back together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Wannabe,” we believe in our hearts that friendship never ends.

And to our surprise, after 19 years, Geri Horner (née Halliwell) has apologized for leaving the Spice Girls back in 1998.

However, if you recall May 31st 1998 clearly, you’ll understand why some people still hold a bit of a grudge against Geri for leaving the group at the height of their fame.

In fact, one Twitter account shared a clip from a fan-made documentary that recounted when, during a massive world tour, Geri decided that she would leave the Spice Girls.

The documentary compiled clips from various interviews, in which Geri explains that she felt like she had “lost grip” of what the Spice Girls were originally about, and talked about how her final single with the band, “Viva Forever,” is still pretty emotional for her. false

Well, after seeing this tweet, the British singer offered a heartfelt apology to Spice Girls fans.

"I'm sorry about that ...💔, everything works out in the end 🌈 , that's what my mum says! X" she wrote on Twitter.

Geri, of course, went on to have a rather successful solo career in the U.K., with her debut solo single “Look At Me” being in 1999 and her cover of “It’s Raining Men” appearing in Bridget Jones’ Diary.

Last year, the former Spice Girl opened up to Oprah about her decision to leave the group.

“It felt like it had grown into this huge monster, bigger than the individuals, bigger than the band itself,” she explained. “Obviously there was a bit of ruction in the band, and I was thinking ‘You know, I just don’t want to do this anymore.’ It was like, ‘You’re getting on my nerves and I don’t know how to talk this through, so I’m out of here.’ It was quite immature, looking back.”

More recently, Geri has gotten married and changed her surname to Horner. Then, earlier this year, the singer welcomed a brand new baby into her family.

We can totally forgive Geri for leaving the Spice Girls to pursue a solo career outside of the girl-band machine. In fact, as we’ve heard from other band members and from Geri herself, it sounds like the experience was difficult for everyone involved. We accept your apology, Ginger Spice!
