George Michael’s music has climbed the charts again and it feels so right
The music of the late iconic pop star George Michael has climbed the Billboard charts following the singer’s untimely death on Christmas day.
Sadly George Michael died aged 53 last month, and his death was met with swarms of tributes and reactions from celebrities and the general public alike. While the singer’s cause of death is still unknown, many stories of the generous things he did for people (mostly anonymously, too) began to emerge, and it was revealed at Michael had also been working on documentary in the months leading up to his passing.
Given his unexpected death, many people retreated to George Michael’s incredible musical offerings, and the streaming service Spotify revealed that streams of the singer’s music had increased over 3000 percent.
Now Billboard has revealed that many of the singer’s tracks and albums have also appeared on the charts again, too.

According to Nielsen Music, George Michael’s albums and individual tracks, including those with his band Wham!, have seen a surge in sales of 2,678 percent. Indeed, Michael (and Wham!) earned 103,000 equivalent album units (a combination of streams and downloads), with three of the singer’s solo albums and Wham!’s Make It Big landing in the Billboard 200 album chart.
The highest charting record is George Michael’s greatest hits Twenty Five, which entered the chart at number 12 , a new high for the collection. Elsewhere, Faith, the singer’s solo debut, lands at number 18, with his 1998 greatest hits compilation, Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael, entering at number 84.
In terms of individual songs, Michael’s “Careless Whisper” was the highest charting song, entering the Billboard Hot 100 at number 33. The track was also the singer’s best selling song of the week, shifting 53,000 downloads (up an apparent 3,423 percent).

In a moving statement, Michael’s former long-term partner, Kenny Goss, said that he wanted fans and the public to remember the singer as he was.
“The beautiful memories and music he brought to the world will always be an important part of my life and those who also loved and admired him,” he said.
Meanwhile, funeral details for the singer are currently unknown. However, it’s been reported that Elton John will perform at the ceremony.
