Australia’s gift to the world in 2016: a George Costanza-themed bar
Calling all Seinfeld fans: A George Costanza-themed bar just opened in Australia. This is NOT a drill, people! We’re only a few days into 2016, but I’m confident this is the best Seinfeld news we’ve heard all year
The bar, simply named George’s Bar, is located in Fitzroy, Melbourne. Every inch of the space pays tribute to the neurotic Seinfeld character we know and love. Cutouts of George’s face adorn the walls, as well as autographed photos of the cast and some of George’s most-loved quotes, like “Everybody has to like me. I must be liked.”
“We came up with the name George’s and worked backwards, concept themeing it,” the bar’s co-owner and operator Dave Barrett told Fairfax Media. “George Costanza suits a bar in a lot of ways. The humour around George works.”
The doors to George’s Bar opened on New Year’s Eve with a menu dedicated to the man himself. Cocktails include the Hand Model (with whiskey), the Marisa Tomei (a Piña Colada), and the Summer of George (apple-flavored). The food menu offers $5 toasties such as the Art Vandelay (double cheese), the Quitter (pesto, tomato, and mozzarella), and the Costanza (tomato and cheddar).
