George Clooney revealed why he and Amal chose the names Ella and Alexander for their twins

What’s in a name? New dad George Clooney is opening up about his twins Ella and Alex, and how they got their names. The actor and his wife Amal Clooney welcomed the babies 3 months ago, and for the first time Clooney is sharing some details about his son and daughter — specifically how their names came to be.

In an interview for his new film Suburbicon, George Clooney explained that the lives of celebrity children are different from others — and that played a significant factor in choosing their names. He stressed that above all, he and wife Amal “didn’t want to have really dumb names.”

“We figured these kids are going to be looked at a lot and watched and [have their] every move sort of judged, and we wanted them to at least have a break with the names,” Clooney explained during the interview. “So we looked for some sort of normal names. We didn’t have any great inspiration. It wasn’t Alexander the Great and Ella Fitzgerald.”

Clooney also shared that the twins already have distinct, unique personalities — and they’re incredibly different from one another. While daughter Ella was described as ‘elegant,’ her brother Alexander seems to be cut from a different cloth.

“[Alexander] is a thug already... He’s a moose! Literally, he just sits and he eats.

Considering the amount of scrutiny celebrity kids have to deal with, we think it’s a great (and smart) move for the Clooneys to give their children normal names. After all, being a kid can be tough enough without having to deal with a rough name to boot. We love the classic names chosen by the Clooneys for their twins!
