What if this long lost character IS the rumor on “Game of Thrones”?
Warning: This post contains rampant spoilers and speculation about Game of Thrones Season 6.
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been obsessively wondering what happened to Gendry on Game of Thrones. When we last saw him, Davos was helping him escape from Stannis and Melisandre, who were super intent on sacrificing him to the Lord of Light. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
But…then what? What happened to Gendry? Where did he GO? If he followed Davos’ instructions, he kept the coast on his left until he got to King’s Landing.
But THEN WHAT? Has he just been hanging out in King’s Landing this whole time? Did he go back to being a blacksmith? I’m not the only person who’s thought about this. Game of Thrones fans haven’t forgotten Gendry, who happens to be the only known character with Baratheon blood left alive on this show.
Now, let’s talk about this week’s episode, titled “Battle of the Bastards.” We all know this refers to the upcoming battle between the show’s two most prominent bastards, Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton. We know this because we saw it in previews and stuff is about to get REAL in Winterfell.
But what if Jon and Ramsay aren’t the only bastards who are going to be battling next week? Remember that very mysterious moment in last week’s episode, when Cersei and Qyburn briefly discussed a certain, undisclosed rumor and confirmed that it was MUCH MORE than just a rumor?
What if that rumor was Gendry and his secret three-year re-residence in King’s Landing? And what’s more, what if Cersei plans to use that to her advantage? It would be very unlike her to go against her kids in any way, but Tommen is off the rails and just abolished Trial by Combat, effectively sentencing his mother to death (or whatever the High Sparrow has in store for her). What if she wants to initiate another Battle of the Bastards — between Robert Baratheon’s bastard, Gendry, and her bastard with Jaime, Tommen — in hopes of upsetting the High Sparrow’s rule over the city? WHAT IF, GUYS?
Or maybe it’s a totally different rumor and Gendry isn’t going to come back this season…or at all…really, anything could happen. But let’s just remember that there are/were a lot of bastards on this show who could battle (/should have battled):
