Gayle King clarified that her BFF Oprah doesn’t actually want to run for president

Leave it to her bestie, Gayle King, to clarify that Oprah isn’t running for president. ICYMI, during an interview on The David Rubenstein Show, Oprah was asked if she would ever consider running for president. She casually answered that, after the 2016 election, it’s at least in the realm of possibility now.

Since Oprah had before been adamant about not ever wanting to run for the office, people (understandably) started freaking out about the possibility of a President Winfrey.

But alas and alack, Oprah’s long-time best friend, Gayle King, said that the entertainment mogul was just joking with her interviewer.

King said, "I was in the audience that day and it was clearly a joke when she was playing with David because they have such a great rapport."

If anybody knows when Oprah is just joking around, it’s Gayle King.

And, though people hoped this was more than a joke, King remained confident in her read on the situation.

Gayle added, "But I also heard on the Oprah Winfrey show over the years you always have the right to change your mind but I would bet my first, second born and any unborn children to come, that ain’t never happening."

Even when her cohost said, “Never say never,” Gayle responded, “I’ll say never on this one.

Okay, that’s pretty confident.

So maybe we won’t hold our breath for Oprah to run in 2020. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy imagining her as the most generous (and fun) Commander in Chief ever.
