“Game of Thrones” showrunners have the WORST news for us

We hate to be the ones to remind you that this saying exists, but… All good things must come to an end. Unfortunately, that includes the TV shows that continually leave us in suspense and make us feel all the feelings. Yup – we’re talking about Game of Thrones here.

I think we’re down to our final 13 episodes after this season. We’re heading into the final lap,” showrunner David Benioff told Variety in April. “That’s the guess, though nothing is yet set in stone, but that’s what we’re looking at.

When David mentioned this last month, we were a bit confused. Before Season 6 premiered on April 24th, we couldn’t imagine Game of Thrones being able to wrap up anytime soon. I mean, Jon Snow was still – SPOILER ALERT – “dead” at that point. Yet, since then, those who keep GoT running have since worked to guide the show toward its natural conclusion.

After being asked if he’ll return to direct more episodes, Jack Bender (who directed Season 5’s last two shows), revealed even more about Game of Thrones’ unfortunate, but inevitable, end. Specifically, he revealed that next season will only contain seven episodes, instead of the usual ten. When discussing if he’ll be directing GoT in the future, Bender explained, “I don’t know the answer to that. They’re only doing seven [episodes], and they’ve got their regulars who have done it forever.” He adds that he’ll actually be working on a series based on Stephen King’s The Bill Hodges Trilogy (which we may need to watch to distract ourselves from the end of Game of Thrones).

Though we’re super sad to imagine a life without Game of Thrones, we do have to admit that we’re glad the series won’t be dragged out. After all – we hate to say it again – all good things must come to an end (especially in Westeros).
