This “Game of Thrones” actor has something to say about his character’s death

Last night’s episode of Game of Thrones was… intense. So if you didn’t get a chance to watch it, we have two words to say to you: SPOILER ALERT.

During the “Battle of the Bastards,” many fans’ wishes were granted when Ramsay Bolton (played by Iwan Rheon) met his ultimate demise. With help from Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) and his sister Sansa (Sophie Turner), Jon Snow (Kit Harington) orchestrated Ramsay’s defeat and reclaimed Winterfell in the process. However, Sansa was ultimately given the opportunity to truly end Ramsay when she fed him to his treasured hounds. (Ouch.) It was definitely a death scene that had us on the edge of our seats.

Though we were just a bit tense while watching Sunday’s GoT, Iwan Rheon (the actor who plays Ramsay) revealed that he didn’t feel the same. “I do think it’s just and it’s right,” Iwan told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m glad it happens as a fan of the show. Jon Snow needs to win because otherwise there’s no hope left in the world. But it is interesting that it isn’t fair. And afterward, Ramsay still thinks he’s won. He’s so arrogant and self assured he thinks he’ll still be fine — until the last minute. He always thinks he’s going to be okay.

Rheon also discussed the moment he found out his character would be leaving the show. The producers had called him and jokingly asked, “Isn’t it great Ramsay ends up on the Iron Throne?” In response, Iwan had a question of his own: “He’s dead isn’t he?” Yet, there were no hard feelings because the actor is grateful for the four seasons he had on the popular show.

I think it’s kind of right he goes down,” Iwan continued. “Because what else is he going to do after this? He’s done so many things. It’s justified and it’s the right thing to do. It’s the right path. He’s reached his peak. It’s nice for the audience that he goes out on this high, if you will.” As for his actual death scene, Rheon found it to be both gruesome and ironic because Ramsay has been “banging on about those hounds all this time.

Since we know that nothing’s next for Ramsay, only one question remains: What’s next for Iwan?

I’m not really sure. There’s stuff that might happen and might not so I don’t want to talk about it yet,” answered the actor. “I need to write another album. Hopefully I’ll be able to do some gigs. All that’s been difficult to do.” Thankfully, it sounds like we’ll be seeing (and hearing?) more of Iwan Rheon in the future.
