Guess who’s back on ‘Game on Thrones’? Well, sort of

Who do we desperately want to come back to Westeros and end this fight for the Iron Throne once and for all? Well, yes, we do want Jon Snow to come back, and maybe he is, maybe he isn’t. Who even KNOWS anymore. But how about someone who’s really close to Jon Snow, and maybe knows all sorts of secrets about him, most importantly his true parentage? Yup, Ned Stark. Do you guys wanna see Ned Stark back on Game of Thrones? OF COURSE YOU DO.

Don’t get too excited, since he’s not coming back to life in exactly the way you think. Ned was killed off at the end of Season 1, and he’s not coming back as a ghost (Nearly Headless Ned?), or a White Walker, or even some form of Lady Stoneheart. Instead, we’re getting more Game of Thrones flashbacks. And this is actually the best thing we could have ever hoped for.

According to Game of Thrones fansite, Watchers on the Wall, the role was just cast, with Sebastian Cross playing a young Eddard Stark. This will mark only the second flashback for Game of Thrones to date, along with the one that kicked off the beginning of Season 5 with a young Cersei learning about her future. Does this mean we’re getting more of these flashbacks, now that the TV show has caught up to everything written in the books? That just might be the case. Brand new shooting locations for Game of Thrones have also suggested we’re looking more into the past than the future for Season 6.

This flashback could also serve to give us a little light into Jon Snow’s true parentage. All we know for certain about it is that Ned left Winterfell at one point, and when he returned, he had a little baby boy with him. Is the child his? Is the child his sister, Lyanna‘s, like many GoT theories suggest? Is it all still a huge question mark? Seeing as how we’re getting a Ned as a teenager, we might not learn about Jon’s family ties yet, but instead Ned’s relationship with his sister. We’ve never seen her on the show, but she’s been mentioned a handful of times. There’s no indication that she’s been cast, let alone will even appear in Season 6. But we can hope.

Game of Thrones is shooting RIGHT THIS VERY INSTANT and will appear on our television screens next spring. That gives us plenty of time to continue to obsess over every little detail released about Season 6. And don’t you worry, we will.
