It looks like Dany and Jon are growing closer in these new “Game of Thrones” images
In a ‘lil post-episode chat at the end of last week’s Game of Thrones, showrunner David Benioff explained that there’s an attraction brewing between Dany and Jon.
That has us feeling kind of weird because of, you know, the whole Dany and Jon being related thing. But, the pair don’t know that…yet. And from the looks of these new photos from Season 7, Episode 5, “Eastwatch,” which first appeared on Entertainment Weekly, it looks like that attraction could be growing.
Just look at the duo, standing cliffside at Dragonstone — and pretty close together.
Maybe feelings are there, or maybe the two are having a very serious talk about the damage that Dany, Drogon, and the Dothraki just inflicted on the Lannister army in the loot train attack.
As per usual with Game of Thrones, it’s hard to guess. But it does appear that whatever is being talked about is pretty serious. Like, look at Jon brooding. He’s even ~broodier~ than normal.
Then, there’s this photo to unpack.
Jon looks pretty intense, so now we’re thinking that it’s pretty likely that Dany just informed him of the loot train attack. Jon advised Dany not to turn to extreme violence in the fight for power, not to be like all the other rulers thirsting for the throne. “I never thought that dragons would exist again — no one did,” he began when Dany asked him what her next move should be in Season 7, Episode 4.
“The people who follow you know that you made something impossible happen. Maybe that helps them believe that you can make other impossible things happen, build a world that’s different from the shit one they’ve always known, but if you use them [your dragons] to melt castles and burn cities, you’re not different. You’re just more of the same.”
But — likely taking a cue from Olenna Tyrell, who told her to be a dragon — Dany took to the battlefield with Drogon, and showed the Lannisters that she really lives up to her “Mother of Dragons” name. We’re thinking Jon won’t be the biggest supporter of those actions, even if he himself has plenty of beef with the Lannisters — and that he might have just heard that news in the photo above.
And here’s one more.
Our guess is that this is a cliffside moment from another point in the episode, since the lighting is different. But like Jon in the photo above, Dany and Tyrion look pretty serious here. The next episode preview suggests this is when Dany tells the Lannister army to bend the knee (or, like, burn?).
That all seems possible, but we’ll find out what’s really going on when the next episode of Game of Thrones airs on HBO on Sunday.
