Hold onto your direwolves, “Game of Thrones” is returning in SUMMER 2017
Just when you think Game of Thrones will be returning back into your lives at a reasonable time, HBO has to go and push it back an entire SEASON.
The show has usually premiered in the Spring, in April, to be specific (except for Season 3 that premiered on March 31st). This has given us something to look forward to each year, because as soon as we make it through the cold, dark winter, we get to head off to cold, dark Winterfell. Well, not anymore.
We already knew that Game of Thrones was going to be pushed back a little bit for Season 7. We were hoping it’d be pushed back like, 30 days. Nope. Instead, it’s going to come ~sometime~ in Summer, 2017. For your information, Summer begins on June 21st, which is right now 338 days away.
AND THAT MEANS GAME OF THRONES RETURNS IN 338+ DAYS UGGGGHHHHHHHH
“Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing,” HBO’s president of production, Casey Bloys, explained in a statement. “Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”
This is major bummer news for us, but it might actually be worse for Game of Thrones. With a Summer 2017 release, that means that the show is now ineligible for the 2017 Emmys, since the deadline for submission is May 31st. Seeing as how Game of Thrones has dominated ALL the categories for these last few years…that now won’t happen again until 2018.
Oh, also, if that’s not enough, it’s been officially confirmed that Season 7 will only have seven episodes.
Seven episodes for Season 7 in 2017? Let’s hope 7 isn’t an unlucky number in Westeros.
