That “Game of Thrones” prequel series could still happen and we’ll be waiting

Hearts of Game of Thrones fans collectively broke when it was announced that the beloved HBO series would end after its eighth season. But it appears there’s a beacon of hope for fans who want more from the Westeros world after Game of Thrones ends.

HBO’s head of programing Casey Bloys confirmed that the network was in talks with the creator of all things GoT, George R.R. Martin on plans to adapt a prequel series. “I would say it’s still kind of preliminary ongoing talks. There are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn’t point to anyone and say, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’”

We can think of a million spinoffs we’d watch in a heartbeat.

We’d love to watch a show about the Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark romance/kidnapping or the War Between the First Men and the Children of the Forest. We’d even watch Gendry row in his little boat for ten seasons if it got us more Game of Thrones.

Martin has made it known that in creating the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, he created thousands of pages in backstories and histories in order to create the expansive world in which the book series and HBO series exist. With so much alluded to in both the show and the books, we know that whatever HBO and the famed author choose, it’ll be incredible. With any luck, Game of Thrones geniuses David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will be at the helm of the new show, too.

While we’re devastated that we’ll have to say goodbye to our fake boyfriend Jon Snow and Daenerys, we’ll maybe see a Stark or Targaryen on HBO again.
